Established in 1994 we guide and teach everyday of the year. Streamcraft is our specialty and we were the first and are still the only people to run drift boat fly fishing trips on the Goulburn River. Casting lessons, fly tying lessons and fly fishing lessons are all provided on our unique property less than two hours from Melbourne. A myriad of local streams gives us the perfect venue to teach budding fly fishers and guide more experienced visitors into a trout or two. Our raft trips on the Goulburn River are a specialty and will leave you wondering why you never did one earlier. Annual trips to the Swampy Plain River in NSW where we run drift boat trips and NZ where we are accredited guides are very popular and are highly recommended. These trips can be hard to to get a spot on as they regularly fill with returning clients year after year. For over a decade we have been teaching new fly fishers, guiding visitors, running drift boat trips, giving out information on the local area and generally been serving the local fly fishing population. We offer the complete package from integrated, graduated learning to being able to sell you a local fly pattern and send you to the right spot for the evening rise. Check out our website for a lot more info. Goulburn Valley Fly Fishing Centre was established in 1994 by Geoff Hall and David Pickering. They ran a small guiding/outfitting business from the back of the take away store in Thornton. Antony joined them as a partner in 1996 and they quickly built their world class facility and it continues to grow with every season that passes. David Pickering With over forty years fly fishing experience and nearly twenty of those living in the Goulburn Valley, David is a streamcraft expert with an intimate understanding of the rivers around Thornton. In his earlier year's, day and weekend trips to waters within driving distance of Melbourne helped him to hone his skills and get a real appreciation of what fly fishing in Victoria had to offer. The culmination of all this experience was a walk out on the corporate world and a new life as a full time fly fishing guide in Thornton. His move to the country came in 1989 and he has been a local fixture on the rivers around his home town ever since. David is 'fish-mad' and every spare moment, dollar and thought is devoted to fly fishing for trout. A passion that has never waned and frequently annoys his business partners! Starting Goulburn Valley Fly Fishing Centre in 1994 with Geoff Hall was the beginning of a new life. Since then David has taught thousands of people to fish with a fly rod or simply guided them down the Goulburn or Swampy Plain rivers on a raft trip. More recently he has been leading week long trips in search of trout on New Zealand's South Island as well as producing several instructional/feature DVDs on the sport. David is a patient and knowledgeable guide who is always out there on the rivers that he loves so much. He is a talented and experienced fly fisher but more importantly he has that special quality of being able to impart his knowledge to others with dexterity and ease. contact
